What A Captain Should Do
Are you a new team captain and you don’t know what you need to do? Are you a returning captain and you don’t know what to do? We might be able to help you out with some information.
Once you have submitted your roster to ALTA and are getting ready for the upcoming season, you will need to do a little prep work with the neighborhood.
First, you will need to submit a copy of your roster to our board member so it can be verified that all your players are “A” homeowners who have paid their dues for the year. Any homeowner not up-to-date on their homeowner dues are prohibited from playing until they are an “A” member in good standing. It is up to you, the captain to enforce the “no playing” for non-paying homeowners. We do allow adult children of “A” homeowners to play on teams, even if the child lives outside the neighborhood and we count them as a homeowner. Non-homeowners may not play on a Chestnut Hill team.
Approximately two weeks before the season starts, you will need to submit your request for a practice night. You can send the day and time (2 hour time frame) you would like to practice to our court scheduler so two courts can be reserved for you on your requested evening. We will only reserve 6 courts at night for team practices, so include a 2nd practice night should all the reservable courts be taken. Practice night reservations will be made 2 weeks before the season starts and will continue for through the entire season.
Once you get your match schedule at the captain’s meeting or from ALTA’s web page, you should send the court scheduler your home match dates so 2 courts can be set aside for those days. The court scheduler will only reserve 2 courts for you for a 4 hour time period. If there are any open courts on your match days, you can reserve an additional court yourself. We prefer that 2 courts be left open in case someone wants to play for fun during team matches. If you noticed, we have a TV down at the gazebo. The code for the combination on the lock box holding the remote is 655. Use the remote to turn on the TV and satellite. Turn off the TV when you are finished and return the remote to the lock box before you leave.
If your team makes the playoffs, be sure to notify the court scheduler as you will need courts for any home matches.
You will have directions to all matches on your match schedule. You can also find directions through the link to ALTA’s directions page.
If you win the division or city finals or you are a city finalist, please let us know so we can order you a sign. The tennis committee purchases championship signs (ALTA and USTA) and hangs them on the fence for all to see. Good luck to your team!
